Grand Opening Ceremony Held at Zimpeto National Stadium
President Armando Emilio Guebuza officially opened the Games at the brand new 42,000-seat Estádio Nacional do Zimpeto, with athletes from 53 African nations parading in a spectacular celebration of continental unity.
The 10th edition of the All-Africa Games was officially opened on 3 September 2011 at the brand new Estádio Nacional do Zimpeto in Maputo, Mozambique. President Armando Emilio Guebuza declared the Games open before a capacity crowd of 42,000 spectators in a ceremony that celebrated African unity and sporting excellence.
Athletes from all 53 African National Olympic Committees paraded into the stadium in a spectacular procession, each delegation led by their national flag bearer. The ceremony featured performances by Mozambican artists and cultural groups, showcasing the country's rich heritage and the diverse traditions of the African continent.
